A camera has a shutter largely insensitive to mechanical shock. It has an electrically-switched aperture setting. The iris diaphragm is constructed using either concentric rings or squared units of liq. crystal so that the required number of rings or squared sections can be biased for light transmission or opacity to form the selected lens aperture. The liq. crystal (5) is biased using an aperture selector (10, 12) to connect the appropriate number of elements to the oscillator (11), battery power source (4) and shutter release (3) circuit.
