The sync. motor has two stators provided with pole ring faces inside and with pole teeth on the outside engaging one another. The stator coils are supplied with a.c. current which is adequately displaced in phase to set the motor in motion. The phase displacement is produced either by a transformer or by connecting the stator coils in series. The motor is started via a self-opening pushbutton switch. During continuous motor operation the stator coils are connected so that the pole teeth poles have the same polarity and the same instant.
