摘要
Self-sealing, skin-piercing, catheter end piece is used for relatively long-term intra-arterial infusion of therapeutic substances into a patient's diseased organ(s). The catheter end piece comprises a rubber (specifically silicone or silicone rubber) tube which has been "turned over" so that its initial outer surface becomes its inner surface and vice versa. This results in substantial reduction of elongation tension of the inner circumference thus ensuring tight fit in the perforation of the patient's skin when the same is pierced, with consequent less risk of infection through the gap between skin perforation and catheter wall. This is esp. important since the claimed article is intended for use in conditions where a patient's resistance to infection is low in any case.
