The digital speed control for the vehicle has two logic memories to process the speed and reference signals and provide correction signals for the speed control. One memory compares the set and actual speeds while the second generates a ramp signal to modulate the correction effect. The ramp control prevents hunting and ensures a smooth correction to the speed. Two levels of ramp can be provided so that as the set and actual speeds approach each other the modulation is smoothed to prevent overshoot.
