Mounting system for laboratory centrifuge - having four simple tube holders which are tilted forwards to decant by arms mounted above rotor which can rotate 45 degrees w.r.t. rotor
Laboratory centrifuge has four multiple holders for sample tubes mounted on pivots. These are free to swing outwards for the centrifugation. Following this the tubes are put into a decanting position. This achieved by four arms mounted above the rotor and connected to the rotor shaft. The rotor is connected to the shaft via connector on a solenoid. This has pins which when the connector is up run in a semicircular slot and allow the arms to move over the holders if the rotation is reversed. They then push the holders inwards into the decanting position. At this point the rotor begins to rotate again and achieves the decantations. When the rotation reverts to normal, the connector moves back through 45 degrees and slots back into its normal position. For laboratory centrifuges esp. centrifuging blood e.g. for Coombs test. The problem with previous systems has been the slip ring connection to actuating solenoids. This system gives a more reliable operation.
