The sensory substitution system for blind persons transmits picture information by a separate tactile electric stimulation probe using packets of impulses via the skin to the brain. The stimulation generator is connected on the one side to light detectors forming the picture. The other ends lead to the inner concentric stimulation electrodes. The detectors are arranged to match the electrodes, each amplitude-modulating the current of its respective electrode dependent on the brightness of the light, and without the insertion of an amplifier. The outer concentric stimulation electrodes are connected together and lead, via a resistor, to the other end of the generator. The mean brightness of all detectors is regulated by the voltage applied to the resistor.
