The flexible floor covering for ships' compartments comprises a layer of mineral wool (3), laid in mat form on the deck (1), on top of which is loosely laid a first set of floor plates (4). A second set of plates (6), laid so that the gaps in the two are staggered, is then glued onto the first using commercial adhesive. Plates adjoining compartment boundaries (8), in one or both cases are flanged to prevent liquid draining into the mineralwool; a horizontal sealing strip (9) complements the flanging.
