The machine has a spindle (1a) mounted in the headstock (2) of the frame provided with guide surfaces (4) and cross slide operates on horizontal guide surfaces (7, 8). On top of the headstock the tool magazine (13) and tool gripping element (14) is mounted to carry out the automatic tool change for the working spindle. A swivelling housing (30) rotates on an axis (26) at 45 degrees to the horizontal. When the work holder is swung into the upper position the clamping surface of the holder is vertical. By swinging the holder into the lower position the clamping surface is horizontal, to allow machining of the four vertical sides of the work.
