Solar collector of relatively flat design is adapted to collect solar energy in relatively low temp. range. It operates by exploiting the selective action of water in that the water (used as heat transfer medium) flows in a layer immediately over that side of the absorber which faces the sun, thereby preventing sec. heat loss of the absorber towards the environment without appreciably affecting solar irradiation of the absorber. The absorber comprises a single panel or foil of homogeneously black-coloured plastics, pref. PVC or PMMA with that surface facing the sun being roughened or matte.
