The thermostatic clutch is for use between the driving shaft and impeller of an IC engine cooling water pump. Expanding material contained in a housing reacts to water temperature changes, acting against a movable housing wall. The movable housing wall (6, 7) itself has a positive engagement surface (6, 7), working directly against one (10, 9) on the clutch half formed by the impeller hub (12) or guide sleeve (13). The housing can be movable in relation to both halves, its wall being moved by the filling of expanding material (5).
