Biological sewage treatment - in activated sludge basins with suspended bottom aerators for oscillating motion

In a biological treatment for sewage, the aerators are placed near the bottom of the activated sludge basins in line, freely suspended from a flexible carrier such as a rope on which the air distribution hose is fixed. The tension of the suspension is low enough to allow a periodical lateral oscillation of the perforated tube aerators. Baffle plates near the outflow create a quiescent zone for the sludge settlement from which a part of the sludge is recycled to the inflow. This system requires much lower capital expenditure for the prepn. and outfitting of the excavated basins. A plant can be enlarged at low cost and its power consumption is very low. Little maintenance is required.
