Ion exchanger for varying boron content of primary coolant - is monitored by electrical conductivity readings upstream and downstream of second ion exchanger in branch circuit
A device for monitoring ion exchangers in a nuclear power plant in order to determine the boron content of the purified water leaving the ion exchanger, comprises two measuring points arranged in series in a branch line leading off the purified water line. Between these measuring points there is a further ion exchanger; from the different between the two readings obtained at the measuring points conclusions are drawn about the state of the process ion exchanger. A thermostat monitoring system and heat exchangers may be used to keep the measuring points at the same temp. Used in partic. for a water-cooled nuclear reactor, where the prim. coolant is treated in order to change its boron content. The method enables conventional conductivity measurements to be used to obtain an indication even of slight changes in the performance of the ion exchange system.
