The contact-free measuring system determines the surface tension and the viscosity of a liquid or a smelt. It is achieved by generating surface waves on a specimen of the liq. to be measured. The amplitude of the waves is measured in order to determine the wave parameter. The surface tension is determined from the dispersion equation of the phase velocity of the wave. The viscosity is determined from the attenuation characteristics of the surface waves. The amplitude is determined by measuring the impedance.
