Supplementary mixing unit is esp. for plastics processing equipment such as injection moulding presses and extruders and has a replaceable nozzle at its outlet end. This nozzle contains a mixing shaft whose surface has several steeply pitched spiral grooves opposing each other and intersecting several steeply pitched spiral grooves opposing each other and intersecting several times at flow diversion points. Acts as mixer head for uniformly adding e.g. pigmented material to an extruder prod. i.e. to a fused premix, without producing surface streaks.
