The lines for the cutting to size of an insert sole for a shoe are engraved so as to form a depression or slit, which facilitates the cutting operation. Two slits 3 mm apart may be provided with the outer one 3 mm from the edge of the sole; two sizes being supplied, one for women and one for men. The sole is in two layers, a layer of foam contg. carbon particles and an upper layer highly absorbent for moisture. Air holes are provided and follow the contour in the edge zone. In the zone of the ball of the foot, the holes run in parallel lines converging towards the toe. The upper layer may be an alpha cellulose fleece bonded by latex such as "TEXON" (RTM).
