Parent patent described a device for manipulating lances fitted with a measuring cartridge or a probe for removing a sample from molten metal in a vessel, esp. in a converter. The device includes a vertical guide for a slide carrying a lance and raised or lowered in the guide via a cable drum. On the bottom end of the guide (4) is a carrier for a magazine employed for holding measuring cartridges or probes; and coupling and centering devices for the cartridges or probes are located alongside the magazine. Specifically the vertical guide is located via at least one pair of swivel arms on a stationary carrier frame. Pref. the swivel arms may be located at different heights. After using the measuring lance, it can be moved sideways so that it does not interfere with the insertion of blowing lance in a hole leading to the converter.
