The lid (2) of the container is provided on the side (4) facing the inside of the container (1) with at least one fastening device for detachably fixing the cartridge (3) of refrigerating agent so that the latter can be held firm even as the container is opened. Since the cooling agent is at the top of the container it has a better cooling effect on the food. Although the cartridge can be readily removed for recharging in a refrigerator it cannot be lost as the lid is opened. The fastening device can be in the form of a suitably shaped recess (5) in the lid designed to take the cartridge with a projection (6) or the like to hold the cartridge in place.
