The wire is drawn to size, annealed, and then fed continuously through a pickling bath and into a molten bath of tin. In the tin bath, the wire travels round a deflection roller and is then drawn in a straight line through a stripper die located just above the Sn in the absence of air, and followed by a cooling tank for the tinned wire. The wire pref. travels into and out of the tin bath at 25-75 degrees, esp. 30-60 degrees, w.r.t. the horizontal, and is deflected in direction only once in the molten tin. The wire is pref. tinned at min. 80 m/minute, and esp. at over 180 m/minute; and the pickling bath pref. contains a chloride or an acid, esp. HCl, the wire being exposed to an electric field in this bath. Used to obtain a min. of 3 mu m Sn with uniform thickness in both the longitudinal an peripheral directions on bright annealed Cu wire, where the Sn coating is concentric with the wire.
