A two pole voltage tester has two contact probes connected via a lamp and, where required, a resistor. It enables levels, polarities, and phases of voltages to be displayed and is relatively simply and robustly constructed. A circuit contg. several lamps is connected between the probes. Each lamp has an associated resistor whose position and/or value is selected so that the lamps are exposed to progressively increasing fractions of the test voltage. The resistances may be connected in series between the probes and in parallel with their corresp. lamps.
