The drive has a single armature winding system shared by the induction-motor and the commutator modes. A commutator winding as a single rotor winding is connected to the laminae of the commutator (5). The commutator winding's coil width is at least approximately an odd integral multiple of the induction motor's stator winding (1, 2). The laminae of the commutator can be shorted together by a contact device (6) below a given speed in the induction-motor mode.
