A navigation system for direction and distance measurement has a measurement station and transporter interrogating and responding with modulated HF continuous wave angular and distance signals. The measurement station is the direction determining part of the navigation system as opposed to previous schemes in which th transporter determines the direction. The measurement station has two aerials next to each other in the plane of search and constructs a reference line. The angle between the reference line and a line joining transporter to station is measured by measuring wide-band modulated signal phase of differences.
