The radial shaft seal comprises a reinforcing ring (1) with radial flange carrying a radially resilient lip seal ring (2) with two conical surfaces (3, 7) meeting at a circular sealing edge (8). The surface (3) exposed to the outside has a number of ribs each having a face (6) adjacent to the shaft surface and an inwardly pointing ridge (5). In the relaxed position of the ring, the faces (6) and the ridges (5) diverge from the rotational shaft axis with increasing distance from the sealing edge (8). The faces (6) are at a minimal distance (b) from the edge (8).
