Diamond dressing tool for boron nitride grinding tools - where diamond tool is fixed on rotary head provided with brake retarding speed of dressing tool

The dressing tool is placed in a holder which can be moved w.r.t. the grinding tool being dressed; and the dressing tool has a tapered shank leading to a journal carrying an idling head which is rotated by the grinding tool. The head carries a diamond dressing tool and also a brake. One pref. dressing tool has a row of fins on the periphery of the head, the fins providing resistance to the ambient air and thus functioning as a brake; and the fins pref. direct an air stream onto the tool being dressed. In another pref. dressing tool, a coolant is fed through channels in the shank and via nozzles, so the coolant meets fins in the bore of the head and thus forms a brake. Used e.g. in the dressing of grinding tools used to grind the bores of holes in high alloy steels. The invention provides a simple and inexpensive dressing tool.
