The folding partition wall or door has shells firmly mounted to a building wall, with a prestressed folding mechanism for interfacing groups of panels. Each group of panels forming a shell section is fitted with an actuating rod for the folding mechanism, providing for it to be activated for folding action against the direction of pre-stressing. The mechanism for one group may be activated by the folding movement of the preceding group. The rod may be telescopically adjustable for length.
