Contactor for liquid-liquid extraction - having cylindrical vessel contg. alternately orientated conical inserts or baffles and with agitator plates rotating on central shaft
Extn. extraction is carried out with continuous counter-current contact between two immiscible liquids in a vertical cylindrical vessel. This has a central rotating shaft down its axis with a series of agitator discs mounted on it. The vessel has conical inserts or baffles mounted at an angle of less than 45 degrees to the horizontal. They have an aperture in the centre of 0.3 to 3% of the total vessel cross section, for the flow passage between the agitator discs and the baffles. The inserts are mounted alternately falling up and down and the agitator discs are located between the peaks of adjoining inserts. It gives effective counter-current contact without back-mixing.
