Filament wound discs with stiffening rings - having twin discs wound together with windings round grooved side collars

Loads are applied to a structural component with collars wrapped with resin-impregnated filaments. A wound component is produced by winding round a rotating disc plus 2 collars which fit on axially, the resin-impregnated filaments pass continuously round the first collar on one side of the disc, over the edge of the disc, round the second collar on the other side, and back again over the edge of the disc; the finished assembly is divided into two mirro-image parts by cutting the filaments along the circumference of the disc and withdrawing the collar plus each half of the winding from the disc. The two collars are themselves wound round also. The windings round each collar produce a stiffening ring to distribute loads over the whole component, the number of such winding s is chosen to suit the loading which arise.
