A sunken pipe drainage system is incorporated in the substructure providing watering and water removal for sports grounds, or similar areas. There are individual parallel undulating elevations (4) in the through-type, watertight substructure ground surface (6), aligned across the shallow roof-shaped slope of the sports field surface (5). These are arranged so that the connecting line of the ridge edges (4') of all the elevations for one roof slope half runs in accordance with the slope. A drainage pipe (9) is sited, in each case, in the inside angle on the rising side between elevation and substructure ground surface, extending parallel to the elevation. This is simple to construct, and provides evenly distributed watering or drainage over wide areas.
