Lubricating system for reciprocating compressor - has flexible oil thrower on crankshaft to prevent excessive oil supply to cylinder

The compressor has a piston (15) reciprocating in a cylinder (14). There is a connecting rod (10) from the piston to the crank of a crank-shaft. An oil thrower (11) is attached to the bottom of the crank and projects down from the crank and dips into the oil (17) in the sump during the lower part of the crank movement. Its action throws oil up into the cylinder (14) to lubricate the piston. The thrower is flexible and this controls the oil to give adequate but not excessive lubrication. It can be a coil spring, a plate spring or a hanging wick, all of which have the necessary flexibility.
