The grill unit has an information carrier for storing the operating instructions and/or cooking recipes incorporated in the base (2) of the unit. It is in the form of an endless band which passes around two spaced rollers, the peripheral surface of one of which lies directly behind a viewing window (7) in the front control plate (3) for the grill. Pref. the viewing window (7) has a transparent protection plate in the form of a curved lens, which simultaneously magnifies the information visible through the window (7). The roller positioned behind the latter may be rotated via a manual wheel (10) projecting through an opening, adjacent the window (7), in the front control plate (3), to transport the endless band past the window (7).
