The unit converts the thermal energy in atmospheric air into usable energy. It comprises a heat exchanger through which the air flows and gives up heat to a heat transfer medium with higher specific heat and heat transfer coefficient than those of air. The medium may be a liquid, such as water. It may be used to heat another substance in another heat exchanger. The air may flow between horizontal double-walled partitions with plastic foil walls, the water flowing between the walls of each partition from a common inlet to a common outlet.
