The analysis system uses a series of test pulses of defined amplitude and phase and a Fourier processor to provide the amplitude and phase of the harmonics and individual frequency components of the received pulses. The Fourier processor provides at least one complex amplitude value (Ax) originating from a specific frequency tx within the transmitted test pulses. This amplitude value (Ax) is divided by the amplitude (Ax) of the corresp. transmitted frequency, to obtain a quotient which is multiplied by a correction factor to provide the resistance of the measured line. Pref. a corresp. quotient is obtained for each harmonic of the test pulse, so that the frequency-dependence of the line resistance can be determined, each of the measured resistance values supplied to a storage and display device (ARE).
