The piece-goods conveyor system has horizontal feed and discharge conveyors at different levels and joined by a vertical conveyor. The vertical conveyor comprises pairs of endless chains spaced apart and with transport rails at regular intervals. The feed conveyor is a roller buffer conveyor (11) divided into two parallel tracks at its end adjacent to the vertical conveyor (3). A piece-goods separating mechanism in the gap between the tracks extends into the vertical conveyor (3), which is driven by an indexing mechanism. Its pairs of chains and/or the transport rails mounted on them run in stationary guides absorbing the load in the horizontal direction.
