The shaft which connects the pump rotor to the drive motor, protrudes through the pump housing in which it is supported by a plain bearing. A bush mounted over the shaft contains a lip seal. The space between the lip seal and the bearing, which supports the shaft in the housing, is connected by a channel to the suction side of the pump. The channel can be cut in the outside of the bearing bush or in the bore of the housing. The channel relieves the pressure on the lip seal and increases its life.
