A booster heater is used for the windscreen defrosting jets in which heat is taken from the exhaust pipe via a heat exchanger and transferred to a heater in the screen jet duct. The booster is in addn. to the conventional water circuit interior heater and any other exhaust heat exchanger. The heat is taken from the exhaust pipe heat exchanger by a heat pipe or similar transfer medium and passed directly to the booster heat exchanger in the duct. The system provides a rapid warm up of the screen jets without having to wait for the engine to warm the coolant sufficiently to open the thermostat.
