Locating and ranging system for missiles in naval engagement - has IR and visual range instruments with equal field of vision and has evaluation circuit

The location and ranging system for flying objects, such as missiles or rockets in naval engagements uses a locating instrument (1) operating in the infra red range. It consists of an optical input system, an infra-red multi line detector, followed by a preamplifier, and an evaluation circuit to produce a digital signal. It will avoid any error signals produced by the sun. There is a second locating instrument (5) operating in the visible range. The field of vision of the second instrument corresponds to that of the infra-red instrument. The evaluation circuit (9) is connected both to the infra red and to the visible range locating instruments. The second locating instrument preferably is sensitive to light of wavelength corresponding to maximum distribution spectrum of colour light.
