Machine gun barrel cooling system - has coolant pump driven by breech block movement and spiral barrel groove

The system cools the barrel of a machine-gun, the movement of the breech block driving an air or liquid pump. This circulates air, liquid etc. as coolant through one or more spiral grooves running round the barrel. The design allows long bursts to be fired without the barrel overheating. An inclined baffle plate may be fitted at the barrel mouth to divert generated water vapour.
