The life saving device is based on the conventional arrangement of a rigid buoyant belt, or collar, in a stowage outboard of the guardrauls. The stowage is in the form of a plate with spring fingers bearing against a ring outer surface and carries a stub tube protruding through the ring. The tube houses an umbrella-like foldable projectile and a line connecting this to the ring. A second line runs from the ring to the stowage plate. The projecting device is spring- or gas-powered, and the power assembly is mounted inside the projectile. The connecting lines are pref. buoyant.
