The chamber operating on the heat pump principle, has the inlet air (A) divided, so that one part (A1) passes through a filter (3) and the other part (A2) travelling upwards passing through a respective heating tube units (8). The first unit has a lower part (7a) forming a precooler for an evaporator (6a). The lower part (8a) of the second unit acts as an evaporator. The two air flows then pass through respective upper parts (7b, 8b) and join in an upper region. The flow is blown through an upper condenser (6c) towards the outlet (5). The two inlet flows (A1, A2) are controlled by respective sets of damper blades 11b, 19). the lower blades (11b) form a by pass, controlling the flow between upper and lower limits, dependent of the operation of the heat pump and the degree of moisture removal. There are further control blades (12b) above the evaporator.
