Disposable plastic syringe for agar storage - with metal insert in mouthpiece and shrunk plastic

Nutrient agar quantities for use in microbiological investigations are stored before use in a throwaway plastic syringe which has in its mouthpiece a stainless metal insert and is enclosed all over in a shrunk plastic foil. The metal insert makes it possible to open the syringe prior to use by a flame application so that any contamination by a cutting tool is eliminated. The plastic for the syringe should be a type which withstands sterilization and heating in a water bath. This ensures sterile storage and transfer of nutrient agar on Petri dishes, even when unskilled personnel is used.
