Avoidance of emission of smoulder fumes from tunnel furnaces - by extracting fumes into hood mixing with fresh air and using with combustion air in firing zone

Fumes from smouldering material in the preheat zone of a tunnel furnace are treated to avoid atmospheric pollution. The gases are drawn through a heat exchanger which heats fresh air and are then mixed with a stream of fresh air. Mixt. is then blown into the firing zone of the furnace. The various contaminants are burnt and the resulting combustion prods. leave via the chimney. The heated air is used to warm material in the preheat zone by passage to burners. The exhaust gases from this also flow to the chimney. Used with funnel furnaces, atmospheric pollution is avoided.
