Adjustable support for high temp. reactor pressure vessel - provides seismic resistance and ability to take up vessel deformation

Cylindrical pre-stressed pressure-vessel, partic. of concrete, rests on a ring-shaped wall structure supported from it by pre-stressed adjustable bearings each of which may comprise an upper and lower pad separated by a pair of wedges which are pulled toward each other by a tie-rod. The lower pad may bear on the wall through a sliding member or a mortar layer. The bearings can be used to adjust the floor level of a turbine-hall built into the underside of a reactor pressure-vessel so supported, and that of an adjacent housing for the coupled generator. In the erection and test phases, separate vessel supports in the form of pillars rockable by virtue of convex ends, may be used to carry the vessel load during plastic deformation.
