The traffic control system is intended for use at motorway exit points to ensure that warning lights are activated if traffic passes in the wrong direction. Traffic passing along a two lane motorway (1) can leave at in exit point (5). Inductive or capacitive loops (6, 7) beneath the road surface nd spaced some distance from ech other. By spacing the loops in this way the signals generated by the passage of a vehicle may be different depending upon the direction of motion.
