The process is intended for producing a journal bearing with multiple bearing surfaces from a component (2) with a cylindrical bore (4). A mandrel (8) of the required dia. is inserted in the bore and pressure is applied on the outside of the component in radially inward direction (18) by as many jaws (10, 12, 14) as the required number of bearing surfaces. When the bore walls are in contact with the mandrel, the pressure is increased by a pre-determined amount to produce the desired bearing contact areas. During the operation the mandrel and the bearing bush may be held by the jaws.
