Weft yarns are drawn off and measured continuously in an endlessly variable manner by winding lengths of the yarns about a number of sections of different dia. of a draw off cylinder (5) in such a manner that the tensions within the winding lengths increases and the coeff. of friction increases for a slip-free yarn draw off. Process applies to looms with fixed weft yarn bobbin and continuously rotating draw off cylinder. Yarns are measured precisely with an inexpensive low inertia cylinder and in yarn sparing manner.
