Safety device for riveting machine - has switch actuated by pressure of riveting head on operator's hand

A riveting machine has the riveting head (22) mounted in a hollow shaft (18) and loaded by a spring (24). A rod (26) extending from the riveting head (22) normally keeps a limit switch (30) closed. This switch controls the electric circuit (40) which in turn controls the pneumatic valve (50) which regulates the flow of air to the actuating cyliner. If the riveting head (22) should touch the operator's hand the head (22) is pushed upwards against the spring (24) and opens the switch (30). The pneumatic valve (50) then stops the downward motion of the riveting head (22). The circuit remains closed if the head (22) touches a metallic object.
