Detecting pathogenic yeasts and trichomonads in vaginal secretions - using liq. culture medium mixt. of hop-free beer wort and sterile isotonic salt soln.

Medium consists of a liq. nutrient substrate of hop-free beer wort, diluted, in 1 : 1 ratio, with a sterile soln. contg. 0.8 g/l NaCl, 0.02 g/l KCl, 0.02 g/l CaCl2, 0.1 g/l NaHCO3 and distilled water to 1000 g total wt. of sterile soln. The liq. culture allows a quick, 6 hr. safe diagnosis of genital mycosis as well as trichomoniasis. Trichomonad growth and mobility are pronounced after 6 hrs. incubation at 37 degrees C. Swabs contg. vaginal secretions are simply introduced into the nutrient media and require no shaking.
