In the mechanism to insert a weft into a loom shed, and convert a conventional loom into a shuttleless loom, the two toothed bands to carry the grippers mesh with a cog driven in alternating directions. The motion is taken from a drive shaft operating in the same way as the shed drive, through a reversing unit. The reversing unit has an adjustable crank arm on the drive shaft, coupled with a lever with one end swinging on a stationary stud. The other end is coupled to a slide through a linkage, in turn connected by a drive chain to the cog. The system allows loom conversion, without special drives, giving quiet running.
