Adenosine triphosphate metallic complexes are new. Pref complexes are those with metals of the iron group, platinum group, alkaline-earth metals, groups Ib, VIIa and IIb of the periodic table and with octinides. Manganese, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, uranyl (UO22+), chromium, iron, thorium, calcium and strontium complexes are specifically claimed. The complexes influence metabolic processes and may be used to treat cerebro-vascular and cerebro-sclerotic troubles, to aid the healing of bone tissue after fractures etc., to treat osteoporosis, osseous cysts etc., and to stimulate, inhibit or completely eliminate the function of various cells. Typically the ATP-Co complex administered intravenously or intramuscularly at 5-10mg. per day has been used to treat iochemic lesions and anoxia. Its activity is compared with scanthanol nicotinate (complamin) and Xavine; the ATP-complexes having the advantage that they are also vasodilators. The complexes may be administered orally or parenterally. Activity tests are described.
