Mass transfer column tower packing of continuous metal strip - using serpentine coil arrangement of strip with wire spacers to improve liquid distribution

Mass transfer column has a packing consisting of a large number of flat surfaces mounted vertically at equal spacing. These are formed from a continuous metal strip or band of constant width which is coiled serpentine fashion to create a set of vertical faces. The band is spaced by a kinked wire spacer to ensure uniformity. The wires are kinked into a regular wave pattern which creates the spacing necessary in the packing. Gives improved liquid distribution avoiding dry patches. It is simple and cheap in construction.
