An automatic guidance system for trackless vehicles uses a steering system controlled by induced signals in onboard coils as the vehicle follows an a. c. cable on the surface. A facility for changing direction at a junction is provided. At a junction the cable (1) divides into two paths (1a, 1b). A gap in each of the paths is provided with one pair of terminals (2, 3) coupled to a contact (7) and a loop (8) set parallel (8a) to the other path. A similar arrangement is provided for the other branch path (4, 5, 9, 9a). Operation of the selector sets the contacts, such that one is open and one closed. The resulting effect is that the current is maintained in one path only.
